Who we are
Simon Sayer and Wimpie Maass founded Cornerstone in 2011 after long corporate careers. They wanted clients to have a person who knew the history — not a new queue every time.
The reason
Simon and Wimpie met while working at Standard Bank. As financial services grew more centralised, the distance between advisers and clients grew with it.
Cornerstone was their answer: an independent short-term insurance brokerage where the same people can help with the quote, the review and the claim.
The team
Managing Director
Eastern Cape · BCom, CAIB, MDP, MBASimon entered financial services after completing his Bachelor of Commerce in 1998 and built a thirteen-year career with Standard Bank Group. His last role was Head of Coastal Provinces in the bank financial planning division before he moved into entrepreneurial financial services businesses.

Western Cape and Central · CFPWimpie has spent the bulk of a twenty-five-year career in financial planning. He progressed from junior planner to Executive Financial Planner at Standard Bank Private Bank, advising high-net-worth clients on financial and estate planning.

National operationsJulie has worked alongside Simon for many years and leads the day-to-day operations behind Cornerstone’s client service.
